Who is Nyanda?
Nyanda is a perfectly flawed human being on a path to greatness who loves life, music and God.
When did you start your musical career? What drove you to pursue it?
I started performing at a very early age singing in Jamaica in a group with my two sisters Tasha and Nailah. Professionally I’ve been in this field for about ten years.
Who has been or who is your source of inspiration?
I’m inspired by life and all its wonderful complexities. Music is an expression so i use it as a tool to express how I’m feeling inside, as cliche as that sounds.
What artistes do you look up to and why?
I love and appreciate different genres of music. I’m sure that I’ve been influenced by many different artistes. But artistes in particular who have made an impact on me are Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill and Diana King.
Tell us more about Bloodlines and what’s it all about?
My sisters and I wrote for Jennifer Lopez, Wisin Y. Yandel, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Scherzinger among others. We had written a catalog of songs that weren’t always the right sound for Brick and Lace. So we decided to form a writing company and pitch the songs to other artists. So far we have had great opportunities. We’re currently working with Kim Viera and Kat Dahlia as well as Pharell Williams’ artiste Leah Labelle. We also wrote Nailah’s single ‘Stand Up’. ‘Love is Wicked’ was and still is one of our favorite records. I wrote it with my sisters Tasha and Nailah.
Love is wicked was the most played and most loved song by Brick and Lace in Uganda and the world over. What was the experience like for you performing live here in Uganda?
I remember the energy of the show we did in Uganda. It was an amazing crowd. There was fireworks on stage and it actually burnt my skin a little bit but it was all an experience with the fans turned up. Uganda is truly the Pearl of Africa. I’ve made great friends there and i really can’t wait to come back there to perform. I loved Uganda – one of my most memorable experiences in Africa. I recently accepted invitation to be a Goodwill Ambassador for the Reach A Hand Foundation so I will definitely be back in Uganda soon.
Which artist in Uganda would you like to work with and why?
Navio did a hot verse on the “Like A Pro” remix. It would be cool to work on something from scratch with him one day.
Why did you opt for a solo career this year? Is Brick & Lace no more?
Brick and Lace will unite and do another album but right now I’m 100% focused on my solo career. This is definitely something I need to accomplish on my own as there are some things that I need to express individually.
What should we expect from you come 2014?
My fans can expect more music from me. I’ve already released a number of singles, collaborations with Mr vegas and Assassin as well as Congolese artist, Barbera Kanam and Cote D’ivoire artist Muss. The work continues.
What’s your average day like?
On an average day I’m working in the studio with my producers The Kemist and Mike from Black Lion. Of course I make time for chilling out with family because that is very important to me. I’m a workaholic and a playaholic. I gotta make time for both!
In case you weren’t an artiste what profession would you be?
I love being creative and on my feet. I love interacting with people. I love performing. I love advertising and acting as well. But music is my first passion.
What’s your final word to all your fans?
To my awesome fans I want to say thank you so much for all your support and well wishes. i do it for you. God bless you and remember to be the best version of yourself. we are all stars in our own reality show.
