HolyUnit Abatukuvu , why that choice of name for your group and how many are you?
First, let’s introduce you to what our identity is. We are an urban Christian music group, signed to Salt Entertainment, comprised of artists who share a common interest in communicating the gospel and sharing the love of God through Hip Hop artistry.

Although currently we are operating with founder members, L.M a.k.a Lyll Mykk, Joyzee C4, Margigle Vibes, Dadie Cole, Andrea, and Freezy, the group has grown into a label, Salt Entertainment, and is now closely working with other artists.

The revelation of the name HolyUnit is based on a passage from the Bible(John 17:15-19. In which Jesus said to God, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world even as am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.”

As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world, for them I sanctify myself, that they too may truly be sanctified.” The Lord didn’t call us to be removed from the culture; therefore, HolyUnit Abatukuvu is striving to infiltrate the culture with the message of God’s holiness.

When and how did you form this group?
We started the group on January 21st 2009, and a year later released our first single titled Ensi Ya Yesu. One day at our church in preparation for the end of year Passover festival, the music ministry came up with a concept of having all the music groups join into one mass choir. The music director wanted the mass choir to have all music articles presented on the Passover, so they announced that they needed some people who could rap from the congregation to join the choir.  Four guys turned up, we were asked to write a rap on three worship songs and that’s how we teamed up. The rest is history!

What ignited Holy Unit Abatukuvu to take on music, especially gospel rap?
This is the 21st Century. People grow up exposed to urban western culture, TV, magazines and the internet, new fashions and trends, music and arts… every one grows up trying to be like someone, a celebrity, a successful business man, a top politician, and a renown musician or sports celebrity.

This is the environment we were born into, and like everybody else, adapted to. The one thing every member of Holy Unit Abatukuvu will tell you is even before they got born again, they had always wanted to do urban music professionally.

When you surrender your life to Jesus, you become a new creation in(2 Corinthinans 5:17). Although your old, sinful self passes away, your old training still remains. The Holy Spirit reinforces any beneficial training you have already received, and counteracts any harmful training.

When God calls you, that means he has an assignment for you, ours is to reach anybody who is influenced by the urban culture. We use the same tools, the words and the context to uplift Jesus Christ and unpack his truth to the rest of the world.

Which individuals have helped you craft your skills what you may call mentors?
Lecrea and the 116 Clique. These guys are powerful men of God, with a vision similar to ours.

They are compassionate and dedicated and nothing holds them down when it comes to getting Jesus behind the door of a Hip Hop lover.

Locally we are grateful to S4J for spotting us and extending his hand so we could reach the media, our producer Holy Rhapsody, Gold Track Entertainment, and the fans. When somebody loves what you do and they show it, you couldn’t want a better motivation.

Which artist would you wish to work with?
Let’s  just say any Artist that God brings our way,  it is always with a purpose that you meet different musicians and actually get down to studio. Our dream though is to sit on a track with the 116 clique.

Do you feel successful?
Am going to answer that basing on this: each year that comes in we as a group set goals and resolutions, and so far we are grateful to God that whatever we set to achieve as a group in a particular year, we achieve it.  For example we purposed to explode across borders and today we have been to all eastern Africa Countries. This year we decided that every song we release is going to be having a video, and the two that we have done have videos.

In that area yes I will say we are successful. However, a goal is a dream with a deadline, and although we have registered tremendous success on our goals, our dream still remains untouched. We have a dream of being not just a music ministry; we want to be able to offer more than just CD.

Much as we labor to make sure our music have a global audience, we want to also establish an equally competitive record label, Salt Entertainment, were we are able to provide resources to the people we influence in areas of evangelism, discipleship and growth when the music stops.

The journey is still long ahead of us, but God is faithful.

What is your favorite bible verse and why?
Isaiah 58:12, it is self explanatory! And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places:thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations;and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in.”

It is the reflection of our purpose to the urban culture, or as we love to call it the streets; Rebuild, Raise, Restore!

Where do you believe you will be in five years time?
Prayerfully, we are going to have established our label so strong and be able to extend a hand to the Christian talents with limited resources.

We are working on strong partnerships with different young adult ministries across the five corners of the world, so we hope to be travelling a lot, sharing the good news of love and hope.
