Omara Daniel Pkwiiyulli… What is the correct pronunciation of your third name?
The ‘P’ stands alone so its Pikwiiyulli, don’t bite your tongue.

You are a renown comedian in Uganda’s entertainment industry. Did you ever see yourself like this when you were little? What did you want to be?
No I honestly didn’t picture this but I think my parents did. The universe has a sense of humour. I wanted to be a fighter pilot, till I realized there’s bullets and crashing involved.

What course did you pursue at university?
Bachelor Of Arts in Education, English and Literature.

Has anything of what you learned in school been reflected in what you are doing right now?
A lot of it: My phrasing, composition, expression, and writing all have roots in my course.

When it comes to talent versus learned skill, which do you think is more crucial in deciding the particular field a person will settle in?
Talent, because it comes more naturally. Can best be related to instinct? One doesn’t have to think too much about it. Though, I’m not discrediting the value of a good education.

What is the hardest thing about being a comedian?
Finding the balance between sense and humor. You can’t have too much of one or the other. You risk becoming either a clown, or a public speaker respectively.

The limelight comes with a price to pay, especially to one’s private life. How do you deal with this?
I let people in on only what I want them to know: The more you try to hide, the more people will want to know. Give them enough to keep them uninterested.

What makes you different from other folk we see on the TV screen and on stage?
I’m not trying. I do what I do, I love every minute of it, and I live for it. Besides, I’m Daniel Omara! If that isn’t difference enough then I don’t know what is.

Besides acting and stand up comedy, what else do you do?
Poetry, script and song writing, rapping… and I’m an amazing lover!

Who has been your greatest source of inspiration and encouragement on your life’s journey thus far?
My family, friends, and a lady I shared the best two years of my life with.

Five years from now, where did you see yourself?
As an icon, mentor and source of inspiration to my elders. Sounds cocky, but that’s the difference between a lion cub and a kitten; Some day, one of them has to take charge while the other becomes a pet.

What is the one mistake you have made that you would undo if you were given the chance?
Besides not learning sooner how to use YouTube, I have no regrets, there’s just no room for that. I treat every mistake as a learning experience. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
